This is a fantastic opportunity to come and write in the beautiful and secluded coastal village of Welcombe in North Devon. The sea is less than half a mile away and there are long stretches of coastal path that offer spectacular views across the vast and ever-changing Atlantic Ocean.

This area is one of the few remaining hidden treasures in the South West of England, largely unpopulated and unvisited, a landscape that is resonant with the forces of nature.

With tutor Alyson Hallett's gentle guidance and tuition, you will be given the time and space to put pen to paper and write in a variety of ways. These courses are specifically designed to enliven your imagination and to create an opportunity for you to engage with language in a playful and inspiring way.

Our Creative Writing Courses are suitable for complete beginners as well as writers with previous writing experience. Whether you have always longed to write but haven't known where to begin, or whether you are at a stage where you need time away to refresh your creative source, these courses will invite you to relax, walk and realise your dreams.

These courses are primarily concerned with having enough time and space to flex the imaginative muscle. As Einstein once said, “Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” The morning workshops will involve warm-up writing exercises followed by an opportunity to spend a more extended period of time writing. You will be invited to write prose as well as poetry.

All you need is a desire to write and a willingness to jump in. I provide the writing exercises in the morning workshops and your afternoons are free for you to walk and swim or simply laze around. There is also an opportunity on the second day to have individual feedback on work that you have written at Home Farm or perhaps a poem that you have brought along with you.

Please feel free to bring poems and stories that you love and might wish to share with fellow participants on the course. You will also need to bring whatever you need for writing – paper, pens, pencils, journal etc.
