You will
be collected from the airport on your arrival and taken to the
hotel which is just 20 minutes from the airport.
The walks
are detailed in simple leaflets that give you instructions and
information so you can enjoy the walks.
The walks;
- Ano
Gerakari - Explore the local countryside and the typically
Zakynthian village of Ano Gerakari with panoramic views across
the island.
- Zante
Town - Starting at the Cathedral with it's magnificent gold
icons and decorations, then across the harbour to Solomos
Square, through the town and up towards the castle. Up at
the castle there are fantastic views and interesting buildings
including ruins of the old churches and military buildings
that occupied the castle over hundreds of years.
- Tragaki
& Kipseli - Walk out a little further along tracks and
country lanes to Kipseli and then on to Tragaki. The villagers
of Tragaki are almost embarrassingly kind people who have
really taken to those who make the effort to come up to their
village.
- Volimes
- Take a drive to the high northern town of Volimes and walk
across tracks to discover the ruined monastery of St Andreas
which stands high on the north west coast. Walking back to
Volimes the ancient trails are alive with wildlife and you
may be lucky enough to spot praying mantis. Take time to stroll
around Volimes with its majestic Venetian tower and church
and perhaps stop to try some of the local mountain honey.
- Giri
Village - This is a chance to get up high, with a slow walk
up the mountain which offers views across the whole of the
eastern side of the island and beyond to the mainland and
island of Cephalonia. On the top is the ancient village of
Geri which has a tiny traditional taverna which offers only
a few traditional dishes cooked daily like rabbit stew and
stifado.
- Keri
Peninsula - At the southern tip of the island is the Keri
peninsula. Walk up into the hills with breath taking views
of Laganas bay and descend to Marathia with it's crystal clear
waters. Then on to Keri Lake famous for naturally occurring
pitch springs before returning to Keri village.
To make
it even easier we can also provide you with GPS data and the
walk guides refer to GPS way points all along the route.
