Prior to opening The Summerhouse, Judith & June
ran their respective businesses ["Poopdeck"
and "Laurie Hooch"] from Boscastle Old Mill.
They had traded there for some years and were open on
the day of the flood in August 2004. Fortunately the
Mill itself was not damaged.
However,
following those awful events their businesses were closed
for some months, but with considerable time and effort
they managed to reopen in early December that same year.
It was a remarkable achievement in the light of everything
that had happened, but they were determined to use the
time to totally refurbish their shop, rather than just
leave things the way they were.
Having
done so much, an opportunity then arose to move a few
miles down the road to Tintagel and into much larger
premises. Their success had meant that they had really
outgrown the Mill in practice anyway - and the new shop
was an opportunity to expand their range into new and
exciting areas such as soft furnishings, clothing, clocks,
bedding, furniture, children's items - and much more.
